Crusader Advocacy Program (CAP)

The mission of the Crusader Advocacy Program, or CAP, is to provide students a school family where they are known, loved, and valued through personal relationships and faith formation.

Not unlike our feeder schools that have Teacher Advisory (TA) time, students within the Crusader Advocacy Program are sorted into “Houses” and then into smaller groups known as “Families,” with a faculty member as the family advisor. Families meet on a daily basis, with a different theme or focus each day.

Here are some CAP specifics:

  • Kapaun Mt. Carmel has eight Houses, each House named after a different saint.

  • Each House includes six smaller groups called Families, with one faculty member (not necessarily a teacher they currently have) as the family advisor.

  • Each Family is a randomly selected, mixed-level group with approximately five freshmen, five sophomores, five juniors and five seniors.

  • CAP meets daily for approximately 20 minutes. Families meet after their second class of the day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and Families sit together at Wednesday Mass.

  • In CAP, students work on interpersonal skills, wellness, faith formation, and community building.

  • Additionally, Houses compete against each other to win the House of the Year (HOTY) competition. Students earn points for their House by attending various school events and participating in yearly food drives.

Students

Through CAP, we are able to develop the “formation of the total person.”  CAP allows students to feel connected to their school community and provides consistency for students as they stay with their Families for all four years of their high school career.  Students also build camaraderie with peers from other grade levels, activities, sports, and clubs.

Our mission at Kapaun Mt. Carmel is to educate and form the total person in the image of Jesus Christ, both inside and outside the classroom.  CAP is just one of many ways in which we work to accomplish that mission.
